Guru Maharaj Ji aka Prem Rawat: Teachings About Prayer
Guru Maharaj Ji aka Prem Rawat: Lingfield Guru Puja, England June 21 1979
But the thing is, that what is Guru Puja? Why have we all come here? Ha, we came for Holi and we'll all come for Hans Jayanti and we are here for Guru Puja. Guru Puja, if you have a guru, if you have a Perfect Master, you can't do anything but worship him every day of your life. You tell me, if you really have that Perfect Master in your life, what can you do except to worship him every day? Get up and worship him, pray, know, surrender. Every day of our lives!!!!!!!!!!
And yet we all come here, you know, just to experience what Guru Maharaj Ji has to give us, just to experience what Guru Maharaj Ji has to give us more and more and more. Just to experience to be putting, to be put back on the road, to experience, to be brought into that harmony again. You know, and maybe there are several aspects of Guru Puja and yet in our hearts there is no other way you can worship Guru Maharaj Ji. I know there is going to be a lot of Indians, there, there used to anyway bring ???? you know little trays with the red stuff in it and the arti tray and the rice and the sandalwood, chundun and I mean a lot of things some sugars, sweet stuff, ??? and all this because they feel that's the way you worship Guru Maharaj Ji. Guru Maharaj Ji, you can only worship Guru Maharaj Ji from heart and that's it, from your love and that's it and to me to come to an occasion, to me to come to a place, to come to a point in our hearts where we can even pray to Guru Maharaj Ji, where we can even see Guru Maharaj Ji that's the greatest opportunity in our lives, that is the greatest thing in our lives. And we just have to open up and really look around and really realize what we are here for, what we want, what Guru Maharaj Ji has given us, what Guru Maharaj Ji has showed us because where were we, where were we going, where were we headed towards, everyone of us.
Guru Maharaj Ji aka Prem Rawat: New Year's Eve Telephone Satsang 31st December 1978
So dear premies, so, it's New Year's Eve, and certainly the most beautiful way to celebrate the New Year's Eve is to be in satsang.
You know, a lot of people make New Year's resolutions. All the fat people want to get thin, and the thin people want to get fat and t This and that, you know, somebody has a dream and he wants to fulfill it and people make all these resolutions and the whole idea is that on the new year, in this coming year, they will try to fulfill it. And it's just a custom, a determinatino and yet, what kind, what kind of a resolution can a devotee pass? What kind of a determination can a devotee make? What, what does he do?
And it's like, well, he really shouldn't make any resolutions. A devotee really shouldn't make any determinations and yet, that's not true. There is a very beautiful resolution that we can all make. There is a very beautiful determination that we can all commit ourselves to. And the resolution really can be from our hearts. You know, it's not like something that we have to talk it out loud. But a resolution for a devotee, what can be a greater opportunity, what can be a greater resolution for a devotee than to just pray to Guru Maharaj Ji to give him that opportunity to surrender, than to pray to Guru Maharaj Ji to become One, to become, you know, to just let go of all those crazy ideas, to let go of all those crazy notions that this mind, you know, wants to bring forth and to make that resolution in our hearts that, "Oh Guru Maharaj Ji, you know, let me really make effort, let me really make that determination so that I can surrender to you"?
Prem Rawat: Shri Sant Yogashram, New Delhi, Vaishakhi Celebrations (Evening Session), 13th April, 1991.
If you are plagued with a little bit of arrogance that 'you know', you are gone. You are finished. You know nothing. Period. Again you have to
turn to the Master and pray to him to give you prudence, "Maharaji, please give me wisdom. I even don't know that as a human being I should not be
egoistic. This is the problem. As a human being, I don't know how to conduct myself as a devotee. This too please teach me.
The question is from where did you learn? From where should I get those words which may enable me to sing
the glory of my Master. For this also I have to pray to my Master, "Please give me those words too, in order that I may pray to you. Give me that
inspiration, give me that wisdom and refined intellect. You just explain to me how I may get rid of my ego."
Because human beings are apt to fall in that swift current despite their being warned against it. They go
near that river, their feet slip and they fall down in it. And then they remember and pray, "Maharaji, save
me." Then they are ready to accept everything: "Oh, Maharaji, I am stupid, I am foolish. Please save me by any means."
So open up your heart. But that too we do not know, how it is done or what we have to do for it. In that case too we have to pray to the Master - "Oh
Maharaji, please teach me the process to open up my heart." Not that "Well, I know." People often presume that they know it, but actually they don't know. "So,
Maharaji, please let me know the technique to enable me to open this heart. How to understand this process." Only through his grace a man can derive the
bliss of Knowledge, otherwise it is not possible.
After giving up all the arrogance, pray to him. And pray with your heart.
Because the modern students do not want to learn. Rather they want to teach. Why? Because they like to
argue and wrangle. Nobody wants to learn. But leaving aside all this, pray to the Master. Pray with your
heart, not by your mouth. Pray with the heart: "Oh Maharaji, I don't know, please teach me. Please tell me. Give me proper guidance and power of
discrimination and protect me. I don't know what to do. Please give me the capability to understand your warnings. If my attention is diverted somewhere else,
O my Lord, please call me back to you. Never abandon me. If I am swept away in the current and forget to call you for rescue, please don't forget me. Just come
and save me. Because as I have the tendency to forget, I may forget you. I do not know what is good for me. But you know best."
If the heart is full of prayer, then a man will get the capacity to comprehend and make others understand things.
Open up your heart. Be a real student, a person who is totally dedicated. Though I know that you have not the capability to become one. So pray for this also that you may become a student. Be a devotee. But I know, you
cannot become a devotee. For this too, you have to beg that you may become one. If you want to become a devotee, you can become one. But you do not know that you have to become a devotee. So far you have been a devotee
of only one thing and that is maya (illusion). And if you are left alone just for one minute, you will again become a devotee of maya. Apparently you don't know how to practice real devotion. You only know how to practice
devotion of maya. You can become a devotee of kali-yuga (dark-age), but if you want to be a true devotee, for that also you shall have to ask
